Cabin 5 is the highest cabin at Turner Falls. About 70–75 stairs separate it from the ground — and from the top, the river is visible from the bedroom window.

It sits on the hillside in a way that feels genuinely tucked away: shade trees around the porch, the sound of running water from outside, the swimming areas directly across from the base of the staircase. Guests consistently describe it as the most “in the mountain” of all the cabins.

The views from the porch. The bedroom facing the river. The 70-odd stairs that everyone mentions — and then says were worth it.

The Climb and What’s at the Top

The stairs are real. Guests count them differently — 70 to 75 is the most common range. Either way: pack light, wear shoes with grip, and bring everything you’ll need for the day before you go up, because you won’t want to make extra trips.

What’s at the top: a porch surrounded by shade trees, a river view from the bedroom, and a degree of separation from the park below that none of the lower cabins can offer. Guests describe it as private in a way the ground-level units aren’t.

When to Come

Summer (June–August): Peak season. The swimming areas directly below are the main draw. The shade trees on the porch are practical as well as scenic when temperatures are high. Book early.

Spring (April–May): Waterfall runs strongest. Fewer people on the stairs. Wildflowers on the trails in April.

Fall (September–October): The Arbuckle Mountains turn in October. The Red Dirt Music Festival runs at the park. ATV season at Cross Bar Ranch. Cool enough to enjoy the porch in the evening.

Winter (November–March): Honey Creek is stocked with trout. The park is quiet. The bedroom river view is the same year-round — just with fewer people below. Lowest rates.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many stairs does Cabin 5 have?
About 70–75 stairs from ground level to the cabin entrance — the most of any cabin at Turner Falls. They’re steep enough that guests with mobility concerns or young children should consider Cabin 3 (ground level, no stairs) or Cabin 1 (7–10 stairs). The stairs are part of what gives Cabin 5 its elevation and privacy.

Can you see the river from inside Cabin 5?
Yes. The bedroom faces the river through large windows. Guests consistently describe this as the defining feature of the cabin — the river view from bed and the sound of running water from outside.

Is Cabin 5 close to the swimming areas at Turner Falls?
Yes. The base of Cabin 5’s staircase is directly across from the swimming areas. You walk down the stairs and you’re there.

How many people does Cabin 5 sleep?
Cabin 5 sleeps 4: a queen bed in the private bedroom and a fold-out sofa in the living room. It’s 450 square feet — ideal for 2 adults or a small family; tight for 4 adults.

Is Cabin 5 good for couples?
It’s one of the two cabins Ron recommends for couples and anniversaries — specifically because of the seclusion. The elevation separates you from the park below in a way the ground-level cabins can’t. Multiple couples’ reviews describe it as their favorite. The elevated porch, the bedroom river view, and the privacy make it a strong option for two people. One couple had a candlelit dinner on the deck.

Do I need to pay park admission to stay at Cabin 5?
Yes. All guests drive through the Turner Falls Park entrance to reach the cabin. Admission is currently around $20/vehicle/day. Guests arriving after 4 p.m. are not charged for that day.
