The Climb — and What You Get for It

About 70 stairs. Guests count them differently: some say 70, one guest’s son counted and landed on that number. Cynthia from Lewisville described it as “lots of steps to go #6.” Another guest called it “stairways to heaven.” One described three sets of stairs.

What everyone agrees on: bring everything up in one trip. Come prepared — no mobile devices you’ll want to grab again, no coolers you’ll need to lug. Once you’re up, you stay up.

When to Come

Summer (June–August): Peak season. The snack stand below the cabin is open, the swimming areas are full, and the waterfall runs. Book early — Cabin 6 gets repeat visitors.

Spring (April–May): The waterfall is strongest. Wildflowers on the trails. Fewer people on the stairs. A Friday night in spring looks a lot like having Turner Falls to yourself.

Fall (September–October): The Arbuckle Mountains turn. The Red Dirt Music Festival runs at the park. The wrap-around balcony is best used in cooler evenings. ATV season at Cross Bar Ranch.

Winter (November–March): Honey Creek is stocked with trout. The park is quiet. The river sounds through the window are the same year-round. Lowest rates.
